Etung Legislative Leader Urges Cyclist Union To Reduce Transport Fare


The Etung Legislature has emphasized the need for transport fare to to remain affordable for passengers.

The Leader of the Etung Legislative Council in Cross River State, Hon. ThankGod Ekupnse Ojong, alongside his colleagues , held a strategic interface with the leadership of the Etung Cyclist Union on Monday 7th April, 2025 at the the legislative chambers of Etung local Government council, to address pressing transportation issues affecting constituents.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Ojong welcomed the invited guests to the legislative chambers and emphasized the importance of building a collaborative synergy between the Legislative Arm and the Cyclist Union, while highlighting the need for cooperation to help cushion the economic hardship faced by constituents, particularly in the area of transportation.

The leader engaged the Cyclist Union on the current transport fares collected from each ward to Ikom. Following their responses, Hon. Ojong appealed to the union to consider a 20% reduction in transport fares as a measure to ease the financial burden on residents.

In his response, the Central Chairman of the Etung Cyclist Union, Mr. Tony Ekuri Amba, assured the council that the union would act on the request immediately. He commended Hon. Ojong for the thoughtful initiative and noted that it was the first time the union had been officially invited to interface with the legislative arm of government and as such the engagement is deeply appreciated by the union.

The meeting marks a significant milestone in fostering inclusive governance and addressing community needs through legislative action in Etung Local Government Area.
