NYCN Reveal Her Commitment To Peace Building And Community Development, Call For Participation In LG Election


The Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Cross River State chapter, His Youthfulness Comr. Emmanuel Olayi has asserted the bold steps the council has taken towards peace building and Community development in the state, also called on the young people and relevant stakeholders to participate in the forthcoming local Government council election of Nov 2nd, 2024, ensuring a peaceful and transparent election process.

The Chairman made the assertion during a press conference at the NUJ press center in calabar on Saturday 26th October, 2024, where he stated that the NYCN is the apex body of all youth organizations in Nigeria, hence the council stand united and committed to the development of communities and advancement of local Governance and the State in general. 


Olayi expressed gratitude to the federal Government for granting autonomy to the local Government to enhance inclusiveness, transparency, independent functionality and rapid community development for the good of the people, he also extolled the Governor of Cross River State, Sen.Prince Bassey Otu for his commitment to the Democratic process that reflects his dedication to strengthen democracy and promote good governance in Cross River State.

Speaking on the council's commitment to community development in the state, he disclosed that the council has interfaced with several relevant stakeholders in Government and presented to them, the deplorable state of Calabar,Odukpani, Akamkpa, Ogoja, Bekwarra, Gakim roads that has impeded human and economic activities in the State, and have appealed for reconstruction work to be done on the roads to open Cross River to robust economic progression. He particularly commended Hon. Peter Akpanke Member of the National Assembly representing Obanliku, Obudu and Bekwarra Federal Constituency who has consistently called the attention of concerned authorities to the state of our federal roads and urged other stakeholders to do same.

He equally, applauded the different political parties for offering young people opportunity to serve as Chairmen , Councillors and supervisors of local Government councils as members of the NYCN are also beneficiaries of this development that builds a foundation for sustainable leadership that reflects the aspirations of the youth of Cross River State. Called on youth to participate actively and responsibly in the forthcoming local Government elections with avoidance of any act that will jeopardize the Democratic process that is crucial for the reflection of their aspirations in Government.

Finally, Comr. Olayi urges security agencies and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that election is conducted under a peaceful atmosphere and vigilance for the safety of lives and properties before, during and after the election.while he charged the candidates who will emerge as leaders of the local Government councils to lead with the fear of God and appropriately utilize funds that will be made available to them for the development of their communities in support to the State Government commitment to better the lives of Cross Riverans.
