C'River Environment Commissioner Frown At Repugnant Attitude Of Residents Towards Environmental Sanitation Exercise


The commissioner for Environment in Cross River State, Hon. Moses Osogi has expressed displeasure over the deliberate violation of the Cross River State Environmental sanitation laws by residents of calabar.

During supervision of the October 2024 environmental sanitation exercise by the Commissioner, staff and taskforce of the ministry of Environment, media houses and security operatives, while some individuals were found intensely cleaning their surroundings, several others were found parading the streets, people playing football on the lawns, food vendors were sighted selling food and also shop owners opened their shops at different parts of the metropolis, including Marian by Rabana, Marian market, murtala Mohammed highway, 8 Miles, and Nassarawa environs, which led to their apprehension by security operatives that handed them over to the mobile courts for discipline.





Speaking furiously, the commissioner, Hon.Moses Osogi expressed disappointment over the manner at which the residents continue violating sanitation laws, stated that the Environmental sanitation exercise which commences by 7-10 am places restriction on vehicular and human movement even after they have carried out the sanitation exercise in their homes. Further advised Cross River to adhere to the sanitation laws and remain indoors till 10am even after they have cleaned their homes.


Osogi also commended residents of calabar metropolis who have adhered to the sanitation laws of the State and participated In supporting Government effort to achieve a clean environment that will promote the image of the State.


Offenders were tried by the mobile court and were given fine to pay according to their offences, while the others were remanded as penalty for violating the environmental sanitation laws of Cross River State Government.
