CRS Ministry Of Environment Applaud Calabar Residents Over Sanitation Exercise Compliance
Following supervision of the September 2024 environmental sanitation exercise by the permanent secretary, consultants and staff of the ministry of Environment Cross River State, the ministry has expressed satisfaction over residents participation in the environmental sanitation exercise as men, women and children were seen keenly participating in the exercise at different parts of calabar metropolis.
Accordingto the permanent secretary of the ministry Dr. Mrs. Rosemary Onah who led the supervision team through different parts of calabar south and municipality, she was impressed at the level of participation and compliance of the residents she and her team observed , as several areas visited were already cleaned and residents were still actively participating in the exercise, which gives an impression of their adherence and cooperation with the ministry and Government for a clean Cross River State. She also revealed the presence of the commissioner at the central for supervision of the exercise, stated that the environmental sanitation exercise extends to every part of the State and urban development authorities have been put in place to oversee the exercise and ensure the absolute hygiene of the State is achieved.
Also a consultant of the ministry commended residents of calabar metropolis for active participation in the environmental sanitation exercise, stating that the people are now conscious of Government efforts and the need to maintain a clean environment with the aim of returning Cross River to it's position as the cleanest state in Nigeria.
On his part, the general manager of waste management agency in Cross River State applauded residents of calabar metropolis for their compliance in the exercise, and also admonished them to make use of the dumpsters provided by Government for easy evacuation of waste. The waste management boss cited several occurrence of waste disposal on the ground by individuals, frowned that it not only gives them difficulty in evacuation but also blocks water passages especially during the rainy season which gives rise to a flooded city. He appealed for cooperation from residents who are expected to properly dispose their waste into the dumpsters provided by Government.
Meanwhile in some parts of the city including Marian market, 8miles market, Atakpa market etc, defaulters were arrested and their goods seized by the special task force of the ministry who arraigned the defaulters before a mobile court at mobil Mcc and food items seized from them were gifted out to the orphanage homes at Uwanse and Batteba streets in calabar.
The permanent secretary also encouraged residents of the State to continue cooperating00 with government to maintain a hygienic and healthy Cross River State, mentioned that the ministry has taken note of the cleanest street in September sanitation exercise and they will be awarded as soon as the commissioner returns back to calabar from the supervision at Cross River central Senatorial district.
