Sports Has Become Business In Cross River State - C'River Governor Otu, said

The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Sen.Prince Bassey Edet Otu has said sports would no longer be a leisure activity but a business in Cross River State.

The Governor made the statement on saturday 15th June during the grand finale of the skating championship at the Mary slessor round about calabar, while addressing Cross Riverians and visitors from other parts of the world who were in calabar for the international skating championship "Skateathon 2024".
The Governor remarked that, the championship has birth another history of sporting in Cross River State and applauded the organizers of the championship for their successful outing, said skating has come to find it's root in the State as an annual sporting event. He maintained that sports would no longer be just leisure activity but a business in Cross River State.

The convener of the competition, Mr. Daniel Damilola expressed gratitude to Governor Bassey Otu for hosting the competition in Cross River State and further appraised him for being the only Governor in Nigeria who consummately supports sports in his state.
The commissioner of Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu disclosed the inclusion of the Skating championship in the Cross River State Sports calendar, elucidated that with support from Governor Otu who is determined to grow sports in the State, Skating has become an annual event for 2nd february every year.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to the Governor for being sports friendly and dedicating himself to sports development in Cross River State.

While decorating Governor Bassey Otu with an award as patron of Nigerian Inland skating federation, the president Alhaji Abdulahi Maikano extolled Governor Otu for the cleanliness calabar is wearing which is worth emulating by every other State including his own State.

The Governor rewarded the overall winner of the competition, Mr. Okene Itunu Joseph, a skater from Lagos state, with a star prize of One thousand($1,000) dollars.

Also the commissioner of sports development presented the cash prize of One hundred (100,000) thousand naira to the third runner up in the female category while the Special adviser to the Governor on sports development, Hon. Ekanem Ekpenyong who led the bikers parade that made the event more colourful presented the cash prize of two hundred and fifty($250) dollars to the third runner up in the male category.

The event was graced by the Governor of CRS, His Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, the C'River State commissioner of sports dev- Hon. Agnes Atsu, The SA to the Governor on sports development-Hon Ekanem Ekpenyong, the SA to the Governor on General Duties- Ekpenyong Akiba Esq, the SA to the Governor on Event Management- Mr. Effiong Ekpenyong, the Deputy CPS to the Governor-Mr. Edem Darlington, representative of the Honourable minister of Sports development, Organizers of the Competition and the Skaters who are in calabar from different countries and States for the competition.
