African Body Set To Partner Cross River On Air Quality Monitoring.
The Cross River State Government has disclosed its preparedness to partner Environmental Monitoring and Energy Research Group -Africa (EMERGA), on air quality monitoring in the State.
Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi, made this known in his office in Calabar, Tuesday, when he received members of the organization on a courtesy visit.
He stated Government's commitment to create enabling environment for private and Non Governmental organizations to carry out activities that will enhance the habitable Environment for citizenry and assured the group of a safe haven.
The Environment Commissioner pledged his full support to the group acknowledging the importance of air as the most important requirement of life and stressed the need to check all forms of pollution.
Earlier, the Director/Group Leader of Environmental Monitoring and Energy Research group -Africa Prof. Ewona Igwe, acknowledged the existence of universities in providing solutions to human needs, added that they were in the state for a collaboration that will be of mutual benefits to both parties.
He disclosed that the group is made up of researchers with multi-disciplinary composition with extensive focus in the area of air pollution.
Prof. Igwe hinted that the group's interest in partnering with the State a sign of vanguard against Environmental abuse.
He further stated that air pollution indices are reported to help sensitive conclusions and that with the group's partnership, air pollution activities in the state will be curbed significantly.
While acknowledging the developmental strides recorded in the area of Environment conservation and preservation under the watch of the Commissioner, the group leader however, expressed worries over some unregulated environmental activities within the state with attendant abuses and hazardous emissions.
The Group added that the statistics on air quality monitoring in Cross River State and other parts of the country has overtime become worrisome, with high rate of death cases in Africa traceable to air pollution, the organization will gain common grounds.
Notably, the meeting was aimed to foster a tripedal relationship between the government and the academia for the general development of the society.
